NewspaperA shelter for the children of Izyum: FUVI’s project moves forward thanks to your donations!

The town of Izyum in eastern Ukraine has been deeply affected by the violence of the invasion. Ravaged by bombardments, the town still has a population, particularly families with children, who are trying to survive in particularly harsh conditions.

For these children, the threat of air strikes and explosions has become a daily reality, forcing them to take refuge in makeshift shelters, often insufficient to guarantee their safety or well-being. Against this backdrop, FUVI has launched an ambitious project to renovate and fit out a bomb shelter for families, especially children. The aim is to create a place where children can not only be protected from danger, but also develop in a suitable environment.

Thanks to a successful fundraising campaign, and the support of generous donors, FUVI was able to fully finance the implementation of this project. Renovation work, covering an area of 100 m², is well underway and should be completed in the next few months. Pending completion of the renovations, classes for children have already begun in a secure room kindly provided by a local school. According to the latest report by Giorgo Provincialli, one of the region’s observers, FUVI’s initiative is of paramount importance to the families of Izyum. “The children have nowhere to socialize or play. They spend most of their time hiding in basements. This project offers not only a safe place, but also an environment where they can learn, develop and interact,” says the report.

The project is the brainchild of Alla Poedi, Honorary President of FUVI, and the involvement of numerous local partners. “We want this shelter to be more than just a refuge from the bombs. We want it to become a living space, a place where children can flourish despite the difficult context,” explains a representative of the foundation. However, despite these advances, there are still many needs to be met. To ensure the long-term success of this project and provide educational and psychological resources for the children of Izyum, FUVI is appealing for solidarity. ” Your support is more crucial than ever. Thanks to donations, we were able to fund the first phase of the project, but for it to reach its full potential, we need your continued support, stresses the foundation in a press release.

For these children, living in uncertainty and fear, the FUVI shelter represents much more than physical protection. It embodies the hope of a safer future, where they can finally recapture some of their innocence and childhood, despite the war that ravages their daily lives.
